The carat is a unit of weight, not size. One carat (1ct) weighs 200milligrams (about the weight of a paperclip) and is divided into 100 points, so that a diamond that is 50 points is described as a half carat or 0.50 carats. Carat weight is the most obvious factor in determining the value of a diamond. However 2 stone of exactly the same size can have very different values depending on the other factors of the 4cís i.e. clarity, colour and cut.
